Clinker Pavilion Montmorency
The new games pavilion is nested within an established garden in a leafy pocket of Montmorency. Designed for a large family, the building is an addition to a 1930’s Miner’s cottage, extended in 1960 by Alistair Knox.
The design is holistic in approach to unify the built structures throughout the site. The architecture draws upon the existing house through form, scale with a material palette comprising of expressed timber framing, large glass panels and blue clinker bricks to reference the Knox extension.
The pavilion is connected to a series of utility spaces including a garage, tools shed and mud room – the linking device which slips beneath the roof eaves to connect new with old. The built elements wrap around the outermost edge of the rear garden, around the forest pansies and mature peppercorn trees to enclose and feature the pool and garden. There are views from the main house, across the pool and into the games room for safety and surveillance.
